TAP | JAZZ | BALLET | LYRICAL | MUSICAL THEATER | ACROBATS

TAP:

The Academy's Tap instruction is incorporated into combination classes for the younger beginning student. For the older

students and the students with more experience there are Tap performing groups, and Tap competition teams. The Tap

program at the Academy ranks among the best in San Diego. We have some of the top Tap instructors and

choreographers
at ADA.

JAZZ:

There are Jazz classes for all levels. There are beginning groups, performance groups, and competition teams. Jazz

technique and Jazz choreography are incorporated together for the beginning student. The Jazz II and Competition

level students take their Jazz Technique in a different class from their choreography.

BALLET:

The Ballet classes offered at the Academy are for the purpose of giving the student Ballet technique to enhance their

overall dance form. Students will begin by learning basic Ballet technique with a focus on balance, flexibilty, strength and the

development of body awareness. As the student progresses in Ballet, more focus will be on placement and quality of

movement. All levels will learn Ballet terminology and Ballet exercises.

LYRICAL:

Lyrical is a hybrid of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. Depending on the choreographer a lyrical class may lean more

toward jazz or contemporary.  Whichever the style lyrical is strongly rooted in ballet technique.

MUSICAL THEATER:

Musical Theatre style is incorporated into many of the classes at the performance and competition level.  For the Academy

of Arts yearly recital there are many Musical Theatre dances open to students at all ages and levels.

ACROBATS:

At the Academy, the focus in the Acrobat classes will be on improving the student's balance, agility, strength, and flexibilty,

while teaching the basic acrobatic mat work from forward rolls to aerials.
